Discussion message Auckland Sunday

Looks like wind may be marginal for beach sailing tomorrow. 10 knt wetserly going NW and rising in the afternoon. Good for Waitarere but not for west coast beaches in Auckland.

We are currently watching what the weather is going to do and it is not looking too good for Waitarere on Sunday. The forecast has improved slightly from this morning. The next release from Metservice is before 7pm tonight, so we will make the call then.

Re weather, Big high on its way may kill the fun for all of us this weekend – if this happens, are there any plans to postpone Waitarere till next best low tide? Rgds Bruce

Interesting comments Paul. If the wind looked good I'd cancel BPP and bring down NZs top sailors to have a go and bring back the silverware. My problem of course is I can only get worse at this long distance stuff! but would have no problem beating the BoP Pups. Maybe the Capital Karters on home ground may have a slight advantage but experience and cunning overcomes any local knowledge. I guess this marathon is 100 km?

Man, you really are looking forward to this arent you? Such fighting talk. As long as you turn off at the WAITARERE > sign after Foxton, you'll get there. See pic for help. See you there. Dave

Hey Paul, It’s ABC race day on Sunday so Lard-di-dahs from the Orange crew are likely to kick a*** on Sunday at BPP as the wind is looking pretty interesting up this way for a change, but hey, Monday looks even better! And hey, we don’t mind if the froth blows off our Cappuccinos! Bazz – just look out for the stream y-hear coz I know you jus’ love to back into it!

Hey Everyone, The mission of the month is definitely Waitarere, Can you Capitol Karters please post some decent times and directions as to how to get there and what side of the river we are meant to be on or are you afraid we may actually turn up?! I don't want our "Nominated" driver to get lost. Oooooor........ have I missed a posting!

Discussion message RE: 100 km event - Auckland

Hi Dave, Placing the mark 10 km down the beach would make for a long blast but if something goes wrong it's a long way back. While it's a pain having to get someone to count laps it does make it interesting when heading back and looking to see where everyone is. And of course there is always someone close to race. It was only at the turn marks that you really got an idea on how you were doing against the opposition other than a few just in front.

I didnt see Phils reply either. We could make our laps longer at Waitarere, but we might need to include a couple of stream crossings. 20km laps would be a possibility without getting too wet! Looks like that adds to the fun though, looking at the pics of all those black sandblasted faces!

Hey Phil Strange, I didn’t get your reply, but I see it in Russell’s. But sometimes the emails arrive out of order. Yeah, that’s why I’ve got to do it again! I may have got the checkered flag, but only 9 laps. But if you add Friday, that’s 150 Km in 2 days, so that’s probably a gentle warm up for the Gobi desert…..I could have kept going all day but for the tide. No blisters like some.

Hey Grant, looks like you only did 90km, thats one lap down! Sounds like a blast though, we will have to do one down here, maybe at Waitarere... Cheers Phil

Discussion message Waikawa Beach

Originally sent by: Phil Ready That was a great morning, thanks for the call Barry. Looking at Tim's Waikanae weather site, I would not have got a sail til the tide came in, good one Barry! We need to add Waikawa to the list of Blokarting beaches. Waikawa is about 20 minutes north of Waikanae town (only adds 15m to trip, because you don't have to go Waikanae beach!

Discussion message Waikanae Saturday

Originally sent by: kel Hi All Some good karting for a small group who headed to a lovely sunny afternoon at Waikanae. The Wind was 45 deg off the beach, making for slower beats to windward, but fast runs downwind. Lots of slime, ( I hope it wasn't sh..t ) added to the interest, from Boat-Club North.

Originally sent by: nonerd I use Maoribank Park, as its quite a good area and almost totally hazard free. (just by the end of the bypass and accessed from Clouston Park Road) got a couple of good runs last evening and again just after lunch today. Perhaps we could join forces? I am also a definite starter for Saturday at either Waikanae or Waitarere.
