Discussion message Auckland Thursday

First night of the Twilight Series with the wind holding up until dark and 25 blokart sailors turning up. A good start to the series, getting away 8 races, 4 in each division, with winds of about 15 knts dropping to around 10-12 for a couple of races. Good to see our new club members joining in the fun, Rob, Rod and Jude, all doing well in there first ever club race.

Hi, Looks like we have a couple of opportunities for this week. Wednesday Graham has organised for the Aussies to meet about midday. Thursday night will be our first twilight night, not a race night, but registration for the twilight series and some fun casual sailing, meet about 5.30 - 6. Race nights will start the following week with racing on every second Thursday starting about 6.15 pm.

Last race night for the twilight series and there's wind predicted. Normal arrangements with race start at 6 pm going through until about 8 or when the wind drops. There's some interesting battles in each division so should be a good night to finish off with. Those with trophies please bring them along.

Racing tonight for the twilight series. The wind has started to come in and with a warm day should get a sea breeze start to build this afternoon. Briefing at 5.50, race start 6 pm, finish when getting dark or wind drops. See you there.

Discussion message Thursday 21st ABC @ Bruce Pulman Park

I arrived at 4:15 pm and sailed for 30 minutes on a 3m in the most fabulous wind at BPP since the Thursday before Christmas last year. I sailed every course available. Then just as I thought no one was going to turn up we had a few newbies and some regulars arrive – bringing the number to 10. At last someone to share the fun with!

BBQs have been arranged by Russell and Jenny. Watch for a post soon from Russell! Nice job on the web site Ross! Nice job second on scratch in the Twilight series too! Pity about Haydn's new kart – be blasted past me and he even gave himself a surprise – it sure is fast out of the corners! (PS, I have a new secret weapon – ask to see the photo today!

Discussion message ABC Sunday Ladies Day

We're kooking like we'll have a ladies day on Sunday with a rising wind forecast and a lot of interest from the ladies. Sue & Emma, possibly Sally, Merrin (if Trevor and I can talk her out of her tennis elbow) and we have the demo kart available too. Merrin will use Trevor's kart (Trevor is a dab hand on the barbie). Orca Dave is hopefully bringing his niece.

Originally sent by: Russell Warm, sunny and plenty of wind to finish off the winter series. It couldn’t have been a better day with for the final race day of the Auckland Winter Series. Most were sailing in t-shirts and enjoying the 12–15 knts of breeze. The direction was WSW, ideal for the park, giving a true beat at the start and a fast leg down to the second car park and back.

Originally sent by: Russell After a great start to the Twilight series last week, tonight is a practice night and time for some non serious racing. Looks like plenty of wind forecast, going to SE, and the rain is meant to become odd scattered showers. So bring wet weather gear just in case but should be a good night at Bruce Pulman Park. Meet 5.30 – 6 pm and will start some races about 6.15. See everyone there including all the newcomers of late.

Originally sent by: Grant What a brilliant end to the series, with the heavyweights finally getting enough wind to have some really good races. I'm sure I speak for all in thanking Russell for organising the twilight series, and foregoing being able to participating in the races himself. That gave us all a chance to move up a place and get some more practice in.

Discussion message RE: US Teams final stand - to night

Originally sent by: Grant To Jet Jammer & Fast Eddie There might be some confusion over the Grants – following the Nationals we now have two grant3s. Great that you guys had a chance to experience the track at it's best – I remember fondly the jibe corner when I first started sailing nearly a year ago – it was a 20 knot day and I nearly did a Paul on it, with the front wheel sliding towards the grass and the inside one above my head – and the...

Originally sent by: Russell Race day is postponed for 2 weeks. The weather is great but unfortunately not enough predicted wind to run the final race day. It is very much the same forecast as 2 weeks ago with wind going to NE tomorrow but not much of it. The final race day will be 18th September. If this doesn't run because of lack of wind we will work with the 16 races we have completed. Details of prize giving will follow.

Discussion message RE: Auckland next weekend

Originally sent by: Russell Hi, Well it didn't happen all weekend. No wind on Sunday in Auckland. Next weekend we have some options. Saturday is the Muriwai enduro, racing a 50 km race, heading North from the stream and back. Final details to follow but my idea would be to meet about 10, barbque about 11 the same as the twilight series, then do our racing for the rest of the day. Low tide is about 1 pm so we can sail until about 4.

Discussion message RE: FW: Auckland Sunday

Originally sent by: Russell Looks like we will have some wind for the opening day of the Auckland Winter Series on Sunday. The predictions are for some rain as well, a little bit doesn't matter but if it's "hosing down" we will postpone for a week. I will put an email out about 9.30 on Sunday morning for those who are travelling, there are a few.

Discussion message Re: FW: Auckland Sunday

Originally sent by: Russell The wind decided to arrive about the time we arrived at the beach and slowly got stronger throughout the afternoon as the rain squalls came through. 8 keen karters were there to enjoy the slow trip to the end of the beach (8 km) but also the exhilarating trip back with most people sitting in the 60 – 65 km/hr range for the length of the beach.
