Discussion message Auckland Sunday

The wind arrived about 1.30 but still from the NE. Got up to about 7-8 knts at times and was enough to get around the short circuit.

And if she needs a kart Chris's and mine will be up for sale soon as Santa has bought us nice new ones, with new 3, 4 & 5.

Stick her in your kart, show her how to do it, and she'll pick it up very quickly. My son started at age 5, when he couldnt even see out the POD!

Discussion message Blokart's 5.5 and POD on ice!

Made it out to the lake today, with enough time to catch a fading breeze. Light enough for the 5.5 and POD. An awesome combination! With a 9-10 knot NWesterly, was able to record max speed of 25 mph on my GPS. More then twice the speed of the actual wind! Sailed continuously for almost 2 hours and never had to stop to come in and warm up. There was one other guy out there with a DN who wanted to say hello.

I could do with a new POD. Shouldnt the early bird elegibility have expired three weeks ago? Its not exactly early anymore!

Discussion message Re: Ivanpah

Bruce, I'm pretty excited a group is planning on Ivanpah again. It will be fun! Joe Kent has 2-3 demo karts and may be willing to set someting up. (Joe @classactionracing.com) I have one extra I bought cheap but it has no POD. I'm sure we can find a way to make it work.

Discussion message Re: New sail

To all, Couldn't resist the urge to chip in. As you may know, several of the guys here in the states have made their own 5M sails (myself included) Having done it as easy and simple as we could, (that being making it just tall enough to only add one full mast section while the boom remains the same length) it as brought us nothing but fun with very little tweaking from the first go round. Mostly a proportionate change in batten lengths.

Discussion message Re: Auckland Sunday

Originally sent by: Russell A thunder storm, heavy rain and no wind at 12.15 didn't stop about 15 blokarters turn up to BBP for the last weekend before Xmas. The wind arrived on cue, getting up to 15 knts for a couple of hours and then dropping 12–15 for the rest of the afternoon.

Originally sent by: Russell Ended up with 16 at BPP to test the conditions. Started with very light winds, (glad I canned the race day!) but then came in with a steady 10 – 12 knts for about 1.5 hours, (wish I hadn't canned the race day!) which saw some good racing between the two carparks, but then became patchy again around 3 (glad I canned the race day!). Finished with a barbeque about 3.30 while discussing go fast hints.

Discussion message Re: Blokarts on Ice (Michigan)

Originally sent by: Mike Moody Paul, Thanks for the info on understeer. The way I sit in mine now is mostly as far forward as I can get without jamming both feet clean through the front of the POD. On ice, overall weight does not seem as critical as on land. Correct tuning of the blades is more important for speed. Has anyone tested putting extra weight up front while using the blades on ice?

Originally sent by: Mike Moody Paul, Wow! never thought of tuning them on the fly! That is very cool stuff! The DN guys will be so jealous! They already like the ease of adjustment and wish they had it on theirs. Four of us were rigged and going for about 30 minutes today before the DN guys had theirs rigged. We did not do well in the compulsory figures today. but our freestyle programs were awesome.

Discussion message Re: Sail Speeds

Originally sent by: kembro45 Just the Std mast base, on all the runs. The 2m was with the POD, but the others weren't. I think the CRB may make it more unstable at the top end, as the power delivery would be less elastic and cause a loss of grip and grip = speed. The CRB are certainly quicker off the mark in light to medium winds though. And yes, nonerd, in 75kts it's an extreme sport. Get the old PSS going for sure, in 180's downwind at 70+.

Discussion message RE: RE: Rules and Regulations

Originally sent by: kembro45 The blokart rules are easy and simple for all the family to remember, and have worked for us organising blokart races for 3yrs at Sandy Point. We haven't had any problem's, so far besides the occasional bingle in arguement of the same bit of beach.

Originally sent by: Jimi Vannoort Greetings Kem, Just having organized the 2004 Japan Championships without finals due to lack of wind, I see where you're coming from. 2004 Japan Finals due this coming weekend if winds hold up. Back to your items in- and outside the race: Should we race under the blokart rules or water sailing rules? – I like the blokart ones. = I say blokart rules, absolutely.

Originally sent by: grunta Hi Kem, Get hold of a copy of the Blokart one design class rule booklet, although in the draft stage it does raise a number of valid points. One being a production category, ie straight out of the box category.

Discussion message RE: speedos again

Originally sent by: kembro45 Nice work Marce, You got the same top as Finian on the windsurfer in France a couple of weeks ago where he took the world record. He was in 45–55knots though so you did real well. Were you on a broad reach? As i'm not sure of the beach direction at Raglan. I'll be out in the next storm after that magic 50knots. The 2m and POD will be on for future attempts in the high winds.
