Discussion message Omaha Sunday 15th

Just had a call from Grant1 wanting an update– the wind is looking ideal for Omaha. I mn abut 5 km away and in Kawau Bay the whitecaps are just forming.

In case you are still wondering Yes Jenny and I did set up at Omaha but apart from 10 minutes of 20 plus knots NE around 10:25 there was hardly 5 knots the rest of the time.

For once the weather was about right. Looks like Auckland had more wind than those at Waihi, I see most had 4 metres, only Debs with a 3.

Originally sent by: Grant Bruce Looking at NE 25 Knots and a fair bit of rain. It managed 5 knots at Orewa this morning. Dargaville's off (wind won't go round in time).

What clean up – the wind blew all the sand off! A little bit in the wheels. Roll on Utube! Broken bones takes a little longer.

Hi Les, What were the washouts on Orewa beach like yesterday? We’ve lost a few axles in the past. I think the wind at Orewa was about the same as Omaha.

Orewa was good today as well 64km with a 3 metre sail. I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 8 spam emails to date.

Bit tame today, no speed records broken, but a great turnout and 128.5 Km was the distance sailed. That is probably an indication of how good it really was!

Thanks Barry Yes great day - yes we had plenty of beach but near the end as the tide came in it was getting narrower and more difficult to tack at each end of the beach.

Originally sent by: Grant Wind is ENE 14 Kts at Orewa, so Omaha should be more. Take the road straight to Omaha and keep straight ahead toward the beach until you see...

Originally sent by: Grant Perhaps we'll just have to go the extra distance to Omaha next time. I think the streams with their washouts took their toll at Orewa today.

OK, I'm a wimp and copped out straight away only cos the clean-up takes ages and I've had broken bones before.

Good to hear from you Wayne - I was wondering if anyone had made it back alive? Sorry to have missed it :-( Can't have been too much beach left to play with in that wind.
