Discussion message RE: Auckland 100/50 km race this weekend

Thanks to the ABC crew for being out at BPP for some great background shots... it looked great seeing a good dozen or so Blokarts out there and the shadow was also filmed.

Discussion message Re: Bay Blokart Race Day Sunday 14

Good day young Don, Could you please pass on through the club my sincere thanks to those who came to my rescue. It was very much appreciated.Unfortunately I can only remember Gary and Suzie but I know that there were at least 3 or 4 people helping extract me and break the cart down. The cart doesn't look as though it's sustained too much damage, but will get the experts to have a look at it.

Great wind, probably 17 - 18 knts with some gusts over 20. Everyone sailed 3 metres to start with one change to a 2 metre as the wind rose later in the afternoon. A short course with lots of "wine glass" bends was set up which proved challenging to some with a couple of karts going over and others heading for the grass (or kerb) as a gust hit at the wrong time. Not sure how Allan survived the gybe rounding in that gust but certainly looked spectacular!

Discussion message Safety helmet recall

I note from this morning's newspaper, that The Warehouse have issued a recall notice for a HUD safety helmet described as a Bicycle/ Skateboard helmet. My purpose in raising this issue is because this helmet appears identical to an earlier type of blokart helmet, which is still widely used.

Discussion message RE: Gogles

In honesty, I’ve tried a lot and nothing really works when it gets really rough out there, Les. Personally I really like the NZ Protector glasses. Sporting a wiper of sorts and one or 2 spares is easy. Goggles get bulky and clash with my helmet I find. Other than that, …… get a decent GPS to avoid the breakers!!!

Discussion message Japanese TV Channel - TBS - World Breakfast - blokart Coverage

Greetings All, Todd and Jenny get a take and their Japanese REALLY shines on the programme. Alan, Grant, Russell and a few others I can’t recognize behind/under glasses and helmets get good footage. The files are available for download and viewing at www.hiwinz.com under the video section.

Discussion message Unused Kart for sale

Good friends of ours are selling their Kart: New 3 years ago – sport model – blue, both sails, helmet, foot bar, seat belt pads, Only beach use – they estimate about a dozen times but tyres dont look as if it has even had this ammount of use. Really this Kart is as good as new. Asking $3,150. We will bring Kart to BPP Thursday night and will list on trade me if no offers before Friday.

Discussion message Let's promote safety

While it's great to see pictures of happy people wearing the 'blokart grin' on the Blokart -NZ homepage, should the first picture REALLY be of someone without a helmet, in open sandals and trailing a seatbelt strap?

Discussion message Auckland Sunday - partners give it a go day

It couldn't have been better. The wind started light, in fact a bit too light, but this gave the ladies a chance to get used to the blokarts under the tuition of Jenny and Marg. The wind came up and confidence grew with about 10 ladies sailing around the car park plus some newcomers using either there own karts or the demo kart. The guys watched, got the barbeque going, watched, cooked the food, watched, made helpful suggestions, watched.

Discussion message Auckland Sunday

It was a great wind today but I didn't get out there. Tomorrow if the SW winds stay up we should head for Kariotahi after lunch. Low tide at 4 pm so should be ok after about 1.30. Will update with email or OPTN. Good night for prize giving last night.

Discussion message Re: What is the top speed record for a Blokart?

Originally sent by: kembro45 Yep, in Storm Sailing, we run way outside the blokart warranty. If you want to give these sort of winds a go, think the runs through first, allow area for turns and deceleration, strap on a helmet, 2m rig and grit your teeth. It's often safer to gybe carefully, than to try a luff turn, as the luff will drag the nose back downwind, causing understeer or worse still keep powering you up.

Discussion message Re: Auckland

Originally sent by: Russell Hi, Looks like a good turnout for the Muriwai Enduro tomorrow. Meet at the stream about 9.30 for registration. For those who don't have 4 wheel drive it is a short walk through from the end of the road or you can get to the beach at the main end (south) and sail down. Keep fingers crossed for the wind to swing south later rather than sooner.
