Discussion message Re: 100 Km Race photos

Thanks to Russell and the rest of the ABC crew for a great day. The wind and weather did their part along with a great location.

Discussion message Re: Auckland Thursday

Hay Russell that was a tough race, not my fault if Haydn wants to pass me on the last lap but yer if I was a decent guy I should have hopped out of my cart and pushed him over the line. Maybe next time!!!!!

Discussion message Re: NZ Open

Originally sent by: Clinton Hi there everyone On behalf of the Melbourne Blokart Club, I would like to congratulate Blokart, BAI and all the organisers on a fantastic NZ open. Even with the lack of wind we (Paul’s children) all had a fantastic time meeting old rivals and friends and also meeting our distant Blokarting cousins from the USA, Spain, Belgium, Japan, Holland and New Zealand.

Discussion message Re: Ivanpah update 4

Originally sent by: Lee Boekhout Your correct in that I overshot the corner due to the speed I was traveling. Again, I quote Webster's dictionary in it's entirety: "Inertia is a property of matter by which it remains at rest, or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force". The force of inertia, or centrifugal force, is pushing my cart outward, like swinging a weight on a string.

Discussion message RE: alternatives?

Originally sent by: ben Hello Gents, We were on the beach at Balnarring, with Cliff who is a quad i.e.: can any move his elbows/ shoulders. We took Cliff down the beach in his cart with a Pod went back to get our carts, when we returned Cliff had been sailing down near the water, went to do a turn with massive understeer & ended up in the water. By the time we go to him he was floating/ sailing along at a depth of my waist.

Discussion message RE: RE: Bruce Pulman on Sunday

Originally sent by: Grant 1PM saw 17–20 Kt winds and 8 karters setting up. The hoons had chucked a beer bottle on the road which meant a puncture on the first run – bottom of the bottle went through the cart at speed, followed by much hissing and a walk back to the carpark for the spare tyre.

Discussion message RE: RE: Bruce Pulman on Thursday

Originally sent by: Grant Hi Marg Check whether Russell's replaced the can (give it a test blast) – it had run out of puff last Thursday. I hope they've not taken the wind with them, and that we can boast a great blast this arvo. Send Russell an sms tomorrow morning and return the favour.

Discussion message RE: Auckland this weekend

Originally sent by: Phil Ready Hi That is pretty much how I do it, except I put my knee on the bottom of the sail and proceed to insert the mast sections one after the other (saves mast dragging on ground and because you are pushing the sections stay together), once the sail has a full set of mast sections it will happily stay on the ground while you locate the top hitching.

Originally sent by: Bruce Hi Marg, First tip (from Les in Tauranga) we learnt about sail assembly is don't fold it, roll it up complete with battens and boom – sticks a out of the sail bag a bit and wont fit in the kart bag of course but still quite convenient in the car. Saves creases and having to insert battens on windy days!

Discussion message Re: One make racing?

Originally sent by: Lee Boekhout Hi all, Regarding the 4M sails, I thought I'd drop a note. I am a big guy, weighing 270 lbs and over 6 feet. The 4M sail helps a lot, especially in light winds. But I do note a control issue with higher winds. Before winter hit, I was sailing in mild winds with the 4M sails, which increased to 30+ mph winds rapidly as a storm approached. The GPS hit 48.2 MPH at one point, my second highest speed noted.

Discussion message Re: Which Model?

Originally sent by: Amy Hi Joe, Bob Casey here from blokarts of Northern Nevada. A blokart is by far the best choice of a landsailer because of its compact size and all of the optional equipment you can get for them. The sport model is your best bet. It's our middle of the line & very durable. I've used them on both beaches and dry lakes. All three carts' upper components are about the same for wear & tear.

Discussion message Re: Advice for a Newbie in Auckland

Originally sent by: Tim Fisk Thanks one and all for the friendly advice. I ended up getting a 2nd hand shadow, and a 2nd hand but unused (brand new) stainless cart with a 3m sail. I tried it out this afternoon with the boys at the park in Papakura and they LOVED it.

Discussion message RE: Tyres

Originally sent by: simon bartley I have had 2 rear tyres destroyed as a result of the surface at Bruce Pulman park, I am going to try out my kite buggy wheels/tyres which are larger diameter, same width, although I'm not so hopeful that the tyres will last longer or that the cart will go any faster, but worth a try. Hopefully some good wind this weekend.

Discussion message RE: Tuning Your Rig

Originally sent by: Clinton Hi there all Being in the heavy weight class and over 105ks I have found that in rig tuning the battens are more important than downhaul. I run in heavy airs, a super tight top batten at slowly ease them off as they come down to allow for shape. In light airs I run the battens very soft so the sail will fall into its natural shape. The downhaul I believe sould not be over used as it flattens the sail to much.
