A contingent from ABC has gone to Blokart Heaven to hone up their skills for the Worlds – leaving the park wide open for the up and coming stars. We’ve seen some great improvement from the newbies and today presents a great opportunity for some wins.
The wind is rising (9 knots at the airport, 14 knots at Bean Rock and 23 knots at the Manukau Heads so it’s looking good.
A few passing showers but not too much rain. Bring wet weather gear and blow away the weekend cobwebs for a great afternoon of fun. And for those that are keen, a few races.
See you thgere,
Cheers
About a dozen turned up for a great afternoon. The rain was threatening but stayed away and we had a good breeze of 10 knots rising to 12-14. After a few laps of the normal course to the top car park “around the mountain” became the favourite course. Jenny showed great determination and speed and beat all except Hayden with a very relaxed sail. Early races saw some interesting jostling for position (reminiscent of Blokart Heaven) but the later races were well spaced with up to 100 meters between the top few.
Newbies Dave and Nathan (introduced by Ray) were going really well, and the Maclean’s girl (on her way to Italy) was a natural, giving the regulars a run for their money.
A few braved the “runway” (the straight stretch past the Rugby Club) making for an interesting turn at speed at the South end and a bit of tacking to get back.
A few puddles to make life interesting with Hayden (probably tail-gating Jenny) taking the worst of it after giving every one a sporting chance by stating last. At lot of sailors were showing good form with Graham, Ray and Allan putting in consistent performances.
Come 4 PM the wind was still up but after 3 hours solid sailing we were content and packed up.
Cheers
Grant
