                        G'day,

I think for pb's (personal best's) the personal GPS is sufficient as they are all fairly accurate, within 1%. Integrity may have more varibles.

We could use the same method as the water sailing speed recording method. They use 3 seperate forms of measurement, two onboard, one off, with three officials from the blokart Association to verify, at your cost.

I liked Ash's idea at the 05 Oz Nationals. If you want to claim an official record it should be recorded on film, showing the GPS prior to the run, and after, with no cuts in between. Speed attempts are fical affairs with strength and direction being crucial, so it has to be run when the conditions occur rather than to set dates. I look at it a bit like big wave surfing, you know it's coming about a week out and you run when the front hits and is passing giving onshore conditions.

Love the idea of racing at Bonneville, the space sounds great for the American blokart Nationals. Do you think there would be enough wind for speed records to fall. How often do you get 50kts? is there a weather station close that we can keep an eye on?

Sandy Point in Australia already has a sailing Speedweek, at the end of October through the first week of Nov each year, finishing just before the 'Melbourne Cup'. The event is for speed sailors from all over the world. It was initially started as a water based event, but over the past 5yrs, we have now got blokarters, Kite buggerars and Wingsurfers on the beach as well. The world records have been set here in the past on water at 46kts, and the blokarts have seen 93km/h. We get 100km/h winds onto 20km of 100m wide beach, several times per year. Our nearest weather station is at Wilson' Promontory, 50k's sth. The link is http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDV65250/IDV65250.94893.shtml

If you want to feel a blokart hooked up in 50kts, then come on downunder.

Cheers
Kem
