Subject: [blokart] Race Software
Hi Don
The "Sailwave" Laser software is no good for timing laps, but I found another program that produces a file that can be read into Sailwave called "Raceday". But if we use this, we don't need Sailwave unless we want to do fancy handicapping too.
I downloaded the demo version and it works surprisingly well. I set up a sample race and entered laps. I have copied the results below.
The program allows individual laps to be timed at the click of the mouse. The demo version only supports 3 sailors. It is Euro 5 (less than $10) to buy (but I can't find now where I found that price).
It looks like the results can be uploaded to a web site at the click of a button (I can host a web site at home if you like).
Here is a review I found, which has some screen shots http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/scoring_programs/Raceday.htm
You can download a demo from http://www.soton.ac.uk/~jets/raceday/index_main.html or I have the file (1.8 MB) that I can email to anyone that is interested.
I can't see whether the sailors name can be added, but a sail number would suffice. It sure beats the paper and stopwatch.
I can install this on a notebook and bring it to BPP. I can also run the notebook off the car battery or the starting light battery I've got. I think it is worth a try? Having scored manually I'd much prefer to use this.
This could be a good stop-gap. What do you think?
