Hi Gaye and any other newcomers to Kapiti.
I usually keep an eye on the current weather conditions through this link:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/tmcgavin/current_nzweather.html or:
http://www.metvuw.com/nzweather/wind.html
and the forecast at this link:
http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php?alias=paraparaumu
I use the Land Information NZ chart for tide times. Use Port Taranaki and subtract 20 minutes for low tide times for Paraparaumu Beach. See:
http://www.hydro.linz.govt.nz/tides/majports/pdf/Taranaki/March_2005.pdf
If we support the Waikanae Boating Club, then it wont be too far in the future that they will have there own weather station and web cam linked to the net, which will be very useful.
Dont know if a Southeasterly is any good at the beach, as it will be blowing over the dunes.
Cheers
Dave

Subject: RE: [blokart] Auckland BPP Thursday nightAnyone know what the weather (wind) predictions are for the Kapiti coast this weekend and the local tide times? We went down to Waikanae beach last Sunday trying to wish up some wind, but to no avail!!!
Cheers Gaye

Good turnout of the (remaining) regulars plus we saw half those racing
tonight without numbers, which was great to see – and some good
performances. 15–20 knot winds dropping at about 7:30 just before the
light started to fail saw 4 of us struggle around the mountain with
bouts of wheel pushing. Managed 4 x 4 lap races, with a good showing
from Peter before he went to check out a capsize, a decisive win by
Tony, another by Ray, and a very spread out final race, as the failing
wind widened the gaps.
Consistency was the challenge for the night, with some varied
performances from us all – but showing "that it can be done". A nice
conclusion to the twilight sailing as daylight saving is about to end,
and Easter looms. But the Sunday sailing will continue with several
confirming they'll be there – so here's hoping for some wind. It's not
Ivanpah, but it's still great Blokarting.
