Mike,
Sorry to hear about the controversy involving how the "Australian Champion" was decided. Certainly, it was bad form by those organizing the event, and they will have to live with any future consequences resulting from their actions. Unfortunately, you made a comparison between the Aussies and the US about "winning that way." Please allow me to set the record straight about how and who we counted as the overall winner at last years event at Ivanpah here in the US. It was understood by all that the person with the best overall score would be the winner. Very simple and as it should be. That person did not happen to be from the US. Rather he was from New Zealand. I was not aware of anyone attempting to "elevate" the first US finisher to the position of champion for the Americas Cup. In fact, the top US finisher wrote a complimentary summary of the weeks event, highlighting the winners performance and complimenting all the Kiwi's and thanking them for traveling so far to support our event. The article was published on the Blokart.com website last spring.
Please do not generalize a "win at all costs" attitude by a few from another country as the prevailing attitude by Blokart racers in the US. As that is simply not the case. Personally, I just try to enjoy the competition and camaraderie, while trying to promote this new found passion. Also, I am prepared to personally guarantee that this years winner will again be the competitor with the best score no matter what his or her country of origin.
Race fast, have fun!
