There is a rectangular magnet available at Dick Smith stores, that with a little scraping of the plastic spoke with a Stanley knife, can be forced in between the spokes with a little 5 second glue added... Like a bought one! Cheers

I glued my magnet onto one of the spokes but it didnt stay on long and got lost on the beach. So I bought a magnet from a hardware store ( ~$3) which had a hole in the centre and used a screw to fix it to a spoke near the rim. It has stayed in place for >2 years now.
Probably the only important thing about placement is that the magnet is aligned with the switch so that the speedo works.
