That's my point the rules are there to keep things safe. Putting E4 back (or an alternative) is a simple, as Russell said, minor change, which removes doubt about who is "right of way blokart" as described in E9. Thanks Theo for listening. Theo is right it's important we get this clear before an accident. It is also important that we all follow E1 as this makes it FUN!
I do not want to see an accident because both parties believe they are "the right of way blokart". A change of instructions on the day is all that's needed. Just like we had on Sunday where we had three rule changes.
1. We used the alternative give way to the right rule, rather than the E4 port/starboard.
2. We had no weaving after the rope and before the start (a new rule).
3. We had 20m before a mark reduced to 5m for E13 (same as the Worlds).
Rules keep everybody safe (just like on the road). I'm not trying to be negative, Sunday was a great day and a great event, and all of us understood and obeyed the rules, but after reading the rules for the Worlds I was very confused. I understand the aim is to make things simple, despite what others may think, I don't want full boat rules. They are not applicable and workable at the speeds we sail, but with no E4 (a right of way rule) there was no way of determining who has the right of way, other than the "ahead" kart and as we are all sailing in curves that is very subjective.
Don't forget at BPP we also have local rules to keep things safe. If we are going into the top car park second entrance you cannot overtake if you don't have an overlap before the first entrance. Also all kerbs are classed as obstructions even though they are not marks of the course.
I promise this is the last Email on Rules. Lets get out there and have some fun. Go Team ABC!
And thank you again Theo. for listening.
