Hey Hot Dog,
Just got back from down south so still catching up with all the latest diatribe. Looks like I ruffled your feathers, not quite sure how? (possibly standing on a beach in 35knots?)  Sorry, but could not decipher the last part of your first paragraph (too many big words in a row for me).
To my knowledge, there is no international push to sail in light airs (at what point is an air light?), BUT the 5.5 does open up the opportunity to blokart more often. Now that can not be a bad thing, surely?
Line honours????? Not sure, but if you are suggesting that's all I care about then I have to say, I resemble, I mean,  I resent that statement!!!
Seriously, I have no need, desire or wish to beat another sailor by using a bigger sail.
I am working on another development to create a 7 metre rig! Check out attached photo.
But you must take my point about the difficulty in achieving the 8 for 10 wind requirement.(this comes from practical experience at several international events) In absolute reality, it is very, very hard to achieve.
Blokarting is much more than just racing. It's about being out there, sailing and having fun. I'm still not sure, but I think we agree on that??
5.5's don't 'rule' anything, but they do allow more fun, more often.
Eventually, the apparent horror/ shock of the introduction of this new sail will soften, and we will all have them as part of the wardrobe. When that happens we can set lower wind requirements and sail more often. Until then, 8 for 10 is the rule!
Now that 35 knot beach challenge.
Name the place, time and sail selection.

Your's in fun Blokarting,

Theo
