For some reason jiglu does not pass this on third time lucky..........

So one consolation my max. speed was 57.7kph (my fastest speed was on lap 2). But we will never know if I could have caught the flying
Hayden it takes a long time to catch somebody at 2kph :-)

Even spending two laps getting back to the start I managed 80km before the time was up. My last few laps felt fastest (no slow spots) but by that time the race was over for me, I was just having FUN!

Sailing 5km with only two tyres was a challenge. I eventually got
going by sailing just on the rim (on the windward side) and keeping it off the ground by standing on the leeward axle, but in a gust I
crashed – It hurt I was going faster than I realized!. Every cloud has
a silver lining however and as the wind increased I got back into the seat, sailing just on the rim was not in fact that difficult. I was going at a good speed by the time I got back the start but was never going to get two laps back. My objective was to catch and pass Chris
(my Son) who had about a 13km lead. I made up the 3km and got in front of him, to be only about 3/4 of a lap behind but he stopped at 80km
and I was stopped when I got back at 80km.

Highlight of the day: Overtaking Orca just before the end of the
second lap, I think he was encouraging me, as I'm not sure what he
said as I passed him slowly with a cheeky "Guess Who". Me in second, I was on cloud nine. Then the wheels fell off at the top mark literally!

What a difference a year can make! Oh and a new kart, ultra carbon
mast, a POD, woolies on my sail (my secret weapon) and a years
practice ;-)

Finally thanks to Graham a great sportsman. Throwing me a wheel and a spanner potentially sacrificing his own race was a great moral lifter. during what was a real low point in my day. Shame that 2008 karts have different diameter bearings and it didn't fit, but as they say it's
the thought that counts and I really appreciated the thought. At that point the wind was soft and I just couldn't get going, I was expecting
a 5km walk!

Next year I'm carrying a spare wheel!

And of course I have to thank Russel who sacrificed his sailing so we could all enjoy a great day and gave me a spare wheel to get back into the action (even if it was not one of his own like I thought). Russell you are a hero to our club, having run a Scout Group for many years I know how much work you put into ABC.
