Race postponed until 2 weeks time.
The forecast was correct just the timing was out. The southerly change came through about 11 am (not late afternoon) and while there was plenty of wind tacking along the beach going to much fun for 100 km. Over 30 turned up including Colin, Phil and Fraser who have had karts for years but this is their first ABC event. Good to see you along and hope you make it in 2 weeks time. Michael made his first appearance and seemed to be enjoying himself. Also good to see Tom through from BoP representing the Bay club. Delayed the start several times waiting for things to improve while everyone sailed around but it didn't happen. Set up a short course by the car park which was a reach down and across the stream and then hard on the wind back to the mark. Did this most of the afternoon. Twice through the stream gave some great photo opportunities. Finished the sailing by tacking down the beach to get the fast run back but with the wind moving more SE it was flat off which made the trip home all down wind and 3 got caught in a dropping breeze. Haydn and Bruce gybed all the way back with good speed but the others were slow as they didn't quite get the angles right. Good to see Dave W back with a new kart, nicely christened with a sweeper when tacking in soft sand. Bruce gave his kart a good wash as well and would now be in the running to take the title off Orca for the deepest blokarting. Finished with a barbeque back at Waiuku park and home by 6 to wash everything. So the race is now 2 weeks time. This will give those who couldn't make it this time a chance to join the race. May shift it to Muriwai to try for some harder sand, it was quite soft in places yesterday. Details to follow. Photos to follow. There were some keen for BPP today to try for a drier sail. Not sure I can make it so will catch you next week. Remember it's a long weekend. Russell
