I have a foretrex 101. I brought it from trademe from Logical Choice.
It requires 2 AA batteries. The Foretrex is the most unreliable unit Garmin makes. I knew this before I brought it.
So when I got my unit I used it with some AA batteries and got appalling battery life ~1 hour and flat after two weeks off. In the manual it says around 12 hours when on alkaline. So I sent it back and got it replaced (No hassels there). Replaced unit seems fine at the moment – had it 6+ months now. Tested it first with alkaline – now I am using Li Rechargeable. Get at least two race days with it before batteries need recharged.

On other notes...
the handle bar bike mount is worth the $30 as the wrist strap doesn't wrap around the handle bar very well. The cable to go the PC can be easily made so if you have access to a soldering iron and Jaycar/Dick Smith has the DB9 and 3.5mm stereo sockets. Be careful of the buttons as your sheet can rip them off.

I found plenty of free software on the net that downloads the data from the GPS. (Because I didn't have the plug pushed all the way in and was wondering why they weren't working! Once pushed in they all worked.) But have since rebuilt the PC and haven't looked at it again.
