2008 Ivanpah Blokart Open and Rally
Dates: March 29-31 and April 1-3, 2008
Venue : Ivanpah dry lake bed in Primm Valley Nevada, 35 miles south of Las Vegas on the Nevada/California border. Entertainment, casinos, restaurants, shopping, and the famous Las Vegas "Strip" are nearby. The racing surface is at the edge of the Mojave desert and is basically a large triangle many miles long and several miles wide. Prepare to set your kart on cruise control/overdrive and ride, Ride, RIDE !
Who: Judging from early responses, this is shaping up to be a truly international event. We have heard from Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, Holland, Japan, Austrailia and New Zealand. All bringing various sized groups of karters. I know most of these people personally and they are all interesting individuals. This will be an excellent chance to meet and talk with blokart sailors and their families from a variety of cultures.
Format: March 29 will be arrival day, practice, cruising and final tuning of all those go fast techniques you've been working on. The rest of the days, we have rally events scheduled for the morning session with racing in the afternoon. Rally events may include but not limited to, a "find the way points" event (learn how to use that fancy GPS and bring it with you), relay races, team race, "reverse order" race and "first to the mark does a circle" race. Newer blokart sailors are encouraged to participate as it is a great way to learn and improve your skills
Rally events will be followed by formal "racing round the bouys" type racing. Racing will be by division and weight groups. We expect to use a handicap system to decide "one" overall winner. The system will rely on the use of various sail sizes to even the playing field between the heavies and the light weights. So bring those new 5.5 M sails, 2M sails and everything in between.
Entries: Fill out entry form and submit. $40 entry fee for rally only events. $95 for rally and race events. Event T-shirt, location permit, and transponder system rental included in the racer fee. A $50 security deposit will be needed for your transponder chip. A limited number of chips will be for sale if you want your own. Racing will use the International Blokart Racing Rules as ammended under Part A, rule A.1
Extra: We will be sharing the playa (dry lake bed) with about 70 folks from the North American Buggy Expo. We will have our own racing/rally area as there is plenty of room for all. The buggy group has welcomed blokart sailors in years past and we expect to return their hospitality in kind for this event. Please be mindful of where the kite buggys are setting up. Running over the lines of a grounded kite is a big no-no. Please respect the equipment of others.
