First night of the Twilight Series with the wind holding up until dark and 25 blokart sailors turning up. A good start to the series, getting away 8 races, 4 in each division, with winds of about 15 knts dropping to around 10-12 for a couple of races. Good to see our new club members joining in the fun, Rob, Rod and Jude, all doing well in there first ever club race. It's now just practice and talking to the club members about how to tune up those blokarts.
The Under 85 kg division had 4 different winners in 4 races with David, Tony, Haydn and Barry all getting across first. Tony's win was at the expense of Haydn who was leading but punctured at the last mark and just not having enough momentum to get to the line. Stopped 2 metres short but could only wheel across after Tony had snatched the win.
Nicko had 3 wins out of 4 in the 85+ kg division nailing the starts and showing good speed around the track with some classy sailing.
This weekend looks good for some beach sailing. Strong SW winds predicted with low tide about midday Sunday and 1 pm Monday on the west coast. I am away so Bruce will put out an email in the morning about which beach and what time.
Next weekend is the Auckland Champs. Information to follow but aiming for 2 divisions, 12 races both Saturday and Sunday for each division, 10 am briefing both days with barbeque on Saturday night. Are there any out of town sailors planning to compete other than Nicko and Alex? Can you let me know so I have an idea of numbers. ... Lots of lucky draw prizes for everyone to win.
Have a good long weekend.
Russell
