Good to hear from you Wayne - I was wondering if anyone had made it back alive?
Sorry to have missed it :-(
Can't have been too much beach left to play with in that wind.
Cheers - Barry C

WOW what a day!!! (Early morning actually) Just got back home after my best ever Blokarting day. Listened to Hauraki Gulf VHF now casting at 6.00 am and wind already up to 48 knots at Channel Island and 40 knots at Tiri Tiri Island, so quickly loaded blokart and gear and was up at Omaha surf club by 7.15. Raining hard and blowing a gale. Here now so cant pike out. Dave Bush and Grant 2 there as well and Hayden not long after also TV Tony for photo proof of our stupidness. Not sure of wind strength on beach but must have been over 30 knots at times and may even have been more. At least we did not not have to decide between 3m and 4m sails. Would have loved to have seen how a 2m would have gone, I suspect it would have been the way to go. It was my first attempt at Omaha and Dave suggested lets rig up in the lee of the sand dunes then head to beach (great idea Dave) and were soon off up the beach with minimal hassles getting going. First run up and down beach and my best speed ever 87.5 Km Hr on GPS very hairy at times but under control "most" of the time. Did hear Dave going on about his mainsheet being a metre short and not going out enough in the gusts (but some guys complain about everything) This speed proved to be the fastest we went all day as the wind swung around more to north fractionally and with that much wind and the high speeds we were doing the apparent was so far forward we could only get into high seventies but still amazing stuff. I had a front tyre tyre blow out at over 60 kms but managed to stop OK and remove tyre and tube then sailed back to surf club on rim doing just under 50 kms. Fitted spare tyre and off again. Oh! and we wont mention who was the only one to tip out after a bit of a spin out, I got out Ok (Whops let it slip) and no damage. Packed up and headed for Matakana - hot food and lattes all round. A great morning was had by all and thanks Dave, Grant,Hayden and Tony I really enjoyed it. Cheers Wayne O (Wayne's World) PS Just listened to Hauraki Gulf now casting again and peaking 76 knots Channel Island and 71 knots at Tiri!!!! _____ From: BK [mailto:...] Sent: Monday, 9 July 2007 8:45 p.m. To: ...
